But Gwindor sat in dark thought; and on a time he spoke to Finduilas, saying: “Daughter of the house of Finarfin, let no grief lie between us; for though Morgoth has laid my life in ruin, you still I love. Go whither love leads you; yet beware! It is not fitting that the Elder Children of Ilúvatar should wed with the Younger; nor is it wise, for they are brief, and soon pass, to leave us in widowhood while the world lasts. Neither will fate suffer it, unless it be once or twice only, for some high cause of doom that we do not perceive. But this Man is not Beren. A doom indeed lies on him, as seeing eyes may well read in him, but a dark doom. Enter not into it! And if you will, your love shall betray you to bitterness and death. For hearken to me! Though he be indeed Agarwaen son of Úmarth, his right name is Túrin son of Húrin, whom Morgoth holds in Angband, and whose kin he has cursed. Doubt not the power of Morgoth Bauglir! Is it not written in me?” Then Finduilas sat long in thought; but at the last she said only: “Túrin son of Húrin loves me not; nor will.”
“Of Túrin Turambar” - The Silmarillion - J.R.R. Tolkien
“The blood of Numenor is all but spent” by Hedonistbyheart.
I’ve been listening to The Silmarillion while writing my last exam and so now I’ve got lord of the rings on my mind:XD:
As usual I adore the twins in Tolkien’s work so here’s one pair, the ones who were separated by fate - Elros and Elrond Half-elven.
Elros, The first lord of Númenor, is mortal and dying here and Elrond, an elf and thus still young, is with him.
I think, being a healer, Elrond might have been his brother’s attending physician during his last days.
Elrond, of course, is sad to lose his brother so irreparably and Elros is trying to lighten the mood a bit
Very beautiful. So rare to come by artwork of Elros. :)
The Kissing Tree: Pippin and Diamond, by ~RachelEwok
“You’re leaving.” Diamond stared up at Pippin through her long lashes, accusing in her deep brown eyes.
Pippin peered down at the lass leaned against his chest. Her expression was a mixture of anger and sadness and Pippin leaned his head against the trunk of the apple tree before leaning forward with a small laugh saying:
“Diamond, love, I’m not goin’ anywhere. Where would I go, for in The Shire I have you.” He smiled warmly at her, but her eyes were not convinced.
“All this talk… Of Frodo and Crickhollow….” She trailed off and he tightened his arm protectively around her shoulders.
“You’re going to be leavin’ me Peregrin, and I don’ like the thought of it.”
Pippin sighed. “Well.” He began with a grin, “Supposin’ I did leave you. Dinna you think I would be comin’ back to ‘ye anyway Diamond? For I couldna leave you: another lad might snatch you away from me.” He smiled brightly and planted a kiss on her forehead.
“Stop it.” She giggled, “I’m tryin’ to be angry with you.” She glared at him, playfully now and with a laugh Pippin turned and said “C’mere.”
With a small, giddy shriek Diamond got up and ran from his grasp, laughing. He finally caught up with her. He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her down, so that his back was against the trunk of the tree and she was sitting, facing him in his lap.
She gazed adoringly into his eyes and he began to hum a tune and sing a few nonsensical lyrics, he made his words clear when he hummed: “… and I can kiss a bonnie lass.” He leaned in and kissed her lips, “’Neath an apple tree…” He kissed her again and Diamond laughed against his mouth.
He stared into her eyes, there was trust in them, and that look nearly broke his heart. He felt a lump in his throat and he said in all sincerity. “Diamond, iffen… Iffen I e’er do go. You know that I love you… Would you wait for me?”
Diamond tilted her head, her lips were parted in what Pippin found to be a most attractive manner, and she leaned back slightly against his knees. She studied his expression for a few moments and then leaned in and nuzzled her lips against his neck. “Of course.” She whispered, her breath warm against his skin. She breathed in his scent: Old Toby and cinnamon, she adored that scent and she so longed to remain here with him forever. She leaned back again to study his face and he looked up at her with a distant smile.
“Dinna leave me Diamond.” He said quietly and wrapped his arms around her back, pulling her close into him and stretched his neck up to kiss her. Diamond looked upon his face sadly for a moment, before closing her eyes and submitting to his kiss.
